Grade 11 - 12

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP)

Arab International Academy – Lusail is authorized to offer the Diploma Programme of the International Baccalaureate for Grades 11 and 12. The Diploma Programme is a rigorous and internationally recognized academic programme that prepares students for university studies by developing critical thinking, research, analytical skills, and time management, alongside building a strong foundation of knowledge.

The programme prepares students both academically and personally for the transition to higher education. It fosters independence, self-directed learning, informed decision-making, and personal responsibility.

The Diploma Programme consists of six academic subject groups from which students select six subjects, in addition to three core components that complete the educational experience:

  • Extended Essay
  • Theory of Knowledge
  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

Academic Subject Groups

The academic subject groups in the Diploma Programme include the following:

  1. Studies in Language and Literature: students choose either Arabic or English as their first language. Courses may focus on Literature, or on Language and Literature.
  2. Language Acquisition: Arabic and English are offered within this subject group, supporting multilingualism and intercultural communication.
  3. Individuals and Societies: the Academy offers courses in History, Business Management, Global Politics, and Environmental Systems and Societies, with additional courses to be introduced progressively.
  4. Sciences: courses include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Design Technology, and Environmental Systems and Societies.
  5. Mathematics: students choose between Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation.
  6. The Arts: courses are offered in Visual Arts.

Most subjects are taught at two levels: Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL), with some exceptions. To be awarded the International Baccalaureate Diploma, students are required to study at least three subjects at Higher Level and three subjects at Standard Level.

Core Components of the Programme

  • Extended Essay
Students complete an independent academic research paper of up to 4,000 words on a topic of their choice, under the supervision of a teacher. This process develops research skills, academic writing, and analytical thinking.
  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
Students participate in a course that explores the nature of knowledge, its sources, the role of language, and the relationships between different areas of knowledge. The course strengthens reflective and critical thinking.
  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
Students engage in a range of experiences that include community involvement and service, creative pursuits, and sustained physical activity. CAS supports balanced development across personal and social dimensions and encourages meaningful engagement beyond the classroom.

International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (CP)

The Career-related Programme is designed to prepare students, beginning in Grade 11, to specialize in an area of future professional interest. The programme combines academic study with practical learning, supporting students in pursuing higher education pathways related to their chosen career field.

The programme includes the following elements:

  • The study of two Diploma Programme subjects that are related to the student’s chosen career pathway.
  • A Personal and Professional Skills course that develops practical and transferable life skills.
  • The study of an additional language beyond the student’s first language.
  • A Reflective Project that examines an ethical issue related to the chosen career field.
  • Participation in community service activities in accordance with programme requirements.
  • A career-related study connected to the chosen professional field, accredited by Pearson BTEC.

High School Diploma (American Diploma)

In addition to the International Baccalaureate Diploma pathways, Arab International Academy – Lusail offers the High School Diploma (American Diploma) pathway. This flexible option is designed to meet the diverse needs of students while preparing them for higher education.

To obtain the High School Diploma, students must successfully complete Grade 12, with all required assessments conducted internally. In addition, students must fulfill one of the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete and pass the official examinations in two Diploma Programme subjects, or
  • Sit for the SAT I examination, including both the Mathematics and English sections, and achieve the required score.

This pathway enables students to obtain the High School Diploma and secure equivalency to the General Secondary Education Certificate from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the State of Qatar, allowing them to apply to local and international universities in accordance with admission requirements.
